Paul Sperry invented the original boat shoe in 1935, when he noticed that his dog did not slip on the rocking deck of his sloop. Mimicking the grip of paws, Mr. Sperry crafted a shoe with a sole capable of retaining its hold on the boat deck, come harbor or high water.

Through the years, Sperry has embraced its nautical heritage, creating the Authentic Original Boat Shoe (A/O for short) as its flagship offering. Any prep worth his or her salt has a pair in two or three colors, and signs of wear are a singular badge of pride. Side note: don't ever let us catch you wearing socks with your boat shoes!

Newer to the collection, but just as vital, are the Sperry Saltwater Duck Boots. Stemming from its unique aquatic background, Sperry created stylish men's and women's duck boots that brave (and defeat) the elements while effortlessly completing your preppy, outdoorsy look. We're running out of space here, so we won't belabor the point that you already know: Sperry makes the preppiest shoe on the planet, and we're their biggest fans!
