Gamma Phi Beta was founded on November 11, 1874 at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. The term sorority was coined for Gamma Phi Beta by Dr Frank Smalley, a professor at Syracuse University. Currently, there are more than 180,000 initiated members and over 180 chartered chapters on collegiate campuses. Notable alumni include: Hope Summers (Actress), Jennifer Dunn (Congresswoman) and Lynn Morley Martin (Secretary of Labor).
